Fellow Bob Pullen, a member of the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority’s Project Management Unit in Maseru, Lesotho, for Phase 2 of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, presented an overview of the project at the Induction Dinners in Cape Town and Gauteng. The presentation covered the history, the construction and the future of this innovative project, the Phase 1 of which has been in operation since about 1998. The LHWP, an international, inter basin water transfer scheme, augments the water supplies available from the Vaal River System from the Upper Orange River for sustaining the economy in Gauteng in terms of a treaty between Lesotho and South Africa which was concluded in 1986.
